musical anomalies

So, this has happened to me twice lately, so here I blog about it.

First, listen to the beginning (or all) of this video. Picture the person you think is singing.

I picture the singer as this reggae black guy with dreads. I'm not sure why. Well, maybe it is because this band, Fun, their other song is called We Are Young, and for a loooong time I was convinced he was Tracy Chapman, because the song (here) reminds me a ton of this song (here). Just listen to the first couple lines.

I definitely don't picture a skinny white kid. In fact, when I saw a screenshot of the actual video (below), I had to watch it just to see what person is behind that crazy voice.

Now watch the actual video:

SERIOUSLY. That guy is talented.

Here's the second example:

Wesley and Laurel and I loooooooove this song. We put it on and dance dance dance (shuffle). But it's crazy! THESE ARE GROWN MEN WITH CRAZY HAIR AND REGULAR JEANS ON, and they are dancing like THAT?????  When I attempt to dance like how they dance (and I do), I am a sweaty mess in three minutes flat. LOVE this song.

Musical anomalies. Make no sense.

first day of pre-kindergarten

It actually was kind of a disaster. It's going to be a long, interesting year. We participate in a co-op preschool so I work one day, which means Laurel comes, too. She had a smallish nap this morning, even smaller one in the baby carrier at preschool, and was a complete wreck by 5:45 PM. Wesley was silly as all get out, giddy for preschool but also crazy from the lack of summer structure, and the teacher had to tell him several times to stop screaming. And, he had an accident since he just refuses to go potty when it's obvious he needs to. Then, since why not over-schedule my child?, we also have occupational therapy to work on his fine motor skills immediately after preK. I brought snacks for Laurel and sat there while he did some art projects and practiced his name and played BedBugs for 30 minutes. He did better than I thought, I thought it would be terrible. But he was good for 20+ minutes before he was ready to go.

There you have it. Bring it on, 2012-2013.

this is getting harder

Nine-month photo shoot after nap this morning. This is getting harder to do with the increased mobility of little miss. Hmm. Also, note to self, do the photo shoot BEFORE Wesley is up and in a distracting mood. I usually do. This morning I had forgotten it was the 12th.

There are a couple shots where you can see all nine ladybugs. What do you think? Gorgeous, no?

I think I'll keep her.

(P.S. TWELVE HOURS STRAIGHT OF SLEEP LAST NIGHT. I could cry I'm so happy.)

Ooooh baby I am SO GLAD I got this on video!!!! YAY!!! This is mainly for the Grandmas...

I love how he says "foolish," kinda like "foo-ish." Sooo cute.

I love this kid!!! I think I'll cry during the ENTIRE Primary Program in November.

bug seasons

Just thought you'd like to know the bug seasons at our new house.
  • April-May:  ants
  • June-July: earwigs
  • August: spiders
  • September: termites

Yayyyyyy. I used to be completely bugged out by bugs. Now it's like, ahh whatever. We even have a few "pet spiders" which hang out by the yard waste bin, swing set, front porch, that I let live just because they work so hard to make dynamite webs every day. Plus spiders kill other yucky bugs so I'm just helping out the natural order of things.
